Nola to Everywhere

Completing a bucket list item in Bangkok

in Thailand on 14/08/15

While in Bangkok, I was able to check something major off of my bucket list: going to the airport without a previously booked ticket and choosing the destination once there. We went straight from partying at The Club (literally a club called “The Club”) to the hostel to grab our backpacks, to a taxi to the airport! When we got there we decided to go to the island of Krabi. Booking plane tickets like this would become a theme throughout this trip as we couldn’t be bothered to put in the effort to prebook 🙂

We went to the town of Ao Nang on Krabi mainly due to the recommendation of someone we met at our hostel in Bangkok. Even though I enjoyed our hostel, its staff, and the group of people we met there (I would end up reuniting with two of them in Vietnam), I found that there was not much to do in town and the beach wasn’t anything to write home about, especially compared to the other Thai beaches. Plus, the hostel was not running any of its tours that most backpackers rave about because not enough people signed up.

Where to stay in Ao Nang:

Slumber Party Hostel

$12 USD/night

This is definitely a party hostel so if that’s not your thing, look for alternative accommodation options. There is a pub crawl every other night, and I didn’t get to go on any of the tours, but heard that they are a must do. This hostel is a 15 minute walk from the beach, but you can stay at their sister hostel on the beach if you’d like to be closer.

What’s something on your bucket list?

Did you have a hard time transitioning back to life in your home country?
