Hi friends! I’ve been crazy busy with orientation for both of my new jobs. I’m so grateful to have work again but BOY, did I forget how tiring fulltime work can be. I am so sleepy. I will get back to recaps soon, but for now I wanted to share a little story from one of my training days. The instructor asked us to introduce ourselves, say what our nursing speciality is, and to tell everyone what is ONE thing we wanted to do “before its all over”. I said that I wanted to visit all seven continents (I only have three to go!). A telemetry nurse answered that she wanted to raise her two sons to be men of God. An ICU nurse answered that she was done with traveling, and that her goal was to “settle down and raise pigs and chickens” (that’s a direct quote by the way). It was SO interesting to me to hear everyone’s answers and how they were similar and different.
To be honest, I kind of gave the side eye to the girls in their twenties who were saying they wanted to settle down. I wanted to shake them and scream “But these are your 20s! These are the years to do it all! You have the rest of your life to settle!”. But to each their own, I guess–I just have very strong feelings about this decade. My favorite answer came from a pediatric ICU nurse. She said “I want to backpack the world”. Needless to say, a huge smile came across my face. Me too!!! I have the same class tomorrow and I am going to make her be my friend haha. It’s rare to hear goals like that from girls in the American South, who are usually only concerned with when they are going to get married and have babies, so I definitely want to take the opportunity to make friends with like minded ladies.
What is one thing you want to do “before it’s all over”?
